DESCRIPTION:Date: Tuesday 10 March 2026 \nTime: 10 am – 1 pm \nLocation: Online (Via Minus18 Zoom) \nFacilitator: Minus 18\, Champions for LGBTQIA+ youth \nThis 3-hour workshop will provide tools for carers to become more aware\, confident and knowledgeable in responding to the needs of LGBTQIA+ young people in your care. \nThe workshop will explore \n\nKey concepts and definitions of sex\, gender and sexuality.\nEvidence based barriers LGBTQIA+ young people face at school and home.\nPractical tools to support LGBTQIA+ young people\nLGBTQIA+ lived experiences via our expert workshop presenters as they talk about their personal journeys being LGBTQIA+.\nThe gender spectrum and definitions of varying gender identities.\nAustralian-based research examining barriers and discrimination.\nThe experiences and processes of medical and social gender transitioning.\nHow to apply inclusive language and create a positive\, inclusive care culture.\nThe tools to provide safe and inclusive caring for young people\n\nIt will be presented by Minus 18\, Champions for LGBTQIA+ youth; creating an Australia where all young people are safe\, empowered and surrounded by people that support them. \nThe session is designed for kinship\, foster and permanent carers.
