Travelling the Road to Care - Induction for New Foster Carers (Online) - EVENING SESSIONS
FCAV will provide practical tips and advice that carers don’t learn in the carer training
This 2 part series will be held on Tuesday 7th & Tuesday 14th February from 7.30pm - 9.30pm.
These sessions will cover issues relating to:
- Navigating the system: case plans & care teams
- Compassion fatigue & looking after yourself
- Connecting to external supports
- Engaging with biological families
- How to create a safe environment
- Working with your agency
- Benefits of respite
- Supporting your biological children
- Saying goodbye
- Connecting to culture
Carers will also hear from experienced carer, Kerryn, who will be talking about what has helped her and her husband to continue caring for 38 years.
Carers will come away with more confidence and a better understanding of the system and what they can incorporate into their daily care of foster children.
Please note that Carer KaFÉ can cover the cost of babysitting while you attend a Carer KaFÉ training session. You need to organise for an approved babysitter via your agency. This needs to be organised and approved by Carer KaFÉ at least one week prior to the training session.
