These strategies will focus on strengthening the carer’s nervous system regulation\, sense of support\, and reflective capacity—so carers are better resourced to respond to the needs of children in their care while protecting their own wellbeing.\n\nMaria Ruberto is a registered psychologist with over 30 years of clinical practice and has worked alongside families and carers across diverse family structures and caregiving arrangements. DESCRIPTION:Date: Saturday 19 September \nTime: 10.00am – 1.00pm (3 hours) \nLocation: Online (Zoom) \nPresented by: Marina Dickson \nThis session will focus on de-escalation as a first response\, as well as strategies and responses that support safety for the carer and the child or young person. It will also include planning regarding how to repair the relationship after rifts stemming from aggression or violence. \nBy participating in this session\, carers will: \n\nBuild strategies to prevent escalating behaviours\nEnhance understanding of the underlying needs of children and young people’s behaviour – including aggressive and potentially violent behaviours\nExplore specific strategies to maintain safety of all in aggressive or violent situations\nIntegrate carer wellbeing throughout the session and response – before\, during and after escalations\nContextualise all of the content to practical and current concerns\n\nMarina Dickson has significant experience in developmental trauma and working collaboratively with those who care for and support children and young people.  She works hard to ensure her training programs are both practically focused and include a bit of fun. \nMarina holds a Bachelor of Social Work and a Graduate Diploma in Vocational Education and Training\, as well as an MBA.  She has also completed a Certificate qualification in Bereavement Counselling. \nThe session is designed for kinship\, foster and permanent carers.
