Beyond burnout: Tools to navigate vicarious trauma and carer fatigue
This session will:
- Explore the impact of caring for others over time, especially in the context of trauma
- Build awareness of early warning signs, personal stress, and the difference between healthy empathy and feeling overwhelmed
- Demonstrate practical, body-based strategies to support recovery, regulation, and long-term wellbeing
- Connect with other carers in honest, real-time conversations that affirm shared experience and collective wisdom
This session will be interactive, allowing carers to practice the strategies and engage with other carers. Q & A will be embedded throughout the session.
This session is presented by Megan Corcoran, Director of the Wagtail Institute and trauma-informed wellbeing consultant. Megan is an experienced teacher, leader, university lecturer and workshop facilitator. Megan has successfully presented this content for Carer Kafe in previous retreats and workshops where carers have reported improved confidence in applying self-care strategies, managing stress, and a greater sense of connection with peers.
The session is designed for kinship, foster and permanent carers.
