Youth Suicide Prevention

Date: Wednesday 8 April

Time: 10.30am – 1.30pm (Including Lunch)

Location: The Dandenong Club, 1579 Heatherton Road, Dandenong, VIC 3175 – Banquet Room (downstairs)

A $50 digital voucher will be emailed after the training to assist with potential travel or babysitting costs

As a result of attending this session, carers will have an increased understanding of suicidal behaviour, and increased confidence in managing this issue with children in their care.

The session will include:

  • Understanding differences in rural / remote, LGBTQIA+, non-suicidal self-injury
  • Risk factors
  • Warning signs
  • Protective factors
  • What to say and do
  • Self care

The Presenter Garry King has held a position with the Australian Institute for Suicide Research and Prevention for over ten years. Garry has extensive experience working with young people, as a teacher, youth worker and counsellor. This lived experience is complemented by degrees in welfare, education, counselling and suicidology. His most recent book is “School Crisis Prevention & Intervention.”

The session is designed for kinship, foster and permanent carers.
