Early Childhood, Primary School, Adolescence, Trauma Informed Care
Time: 10.30 AM – 12.00 PM
Date: Saturday 22 November
Location: Online (Zoom)
Presented by: Lorren Arezio, Clinical Psychologist
By participating in this webinar, you will:
- Gain a basic overview of the DDP (Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy and Practice) and PACE (Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity and Empathy) frameworks and how they can support ongoing positive communication and connection when traumatised children in care become triggered and defensive.
- Understand why this approach was developed to better support children and young people in care who have experienced early relational trauma for whom more traditional approaches can often be ineffective.
- Understand the experience of ‘Blocked Trust’ that many children and young people in the care system have, and how this makes it difficult to accept care and warmth that may be offered to them.
- Understand why these children and young people can remain defensive and oppositional despite our best efforts to help them.
- Understand how this can impact us as carers, why it is important to remain regulated but also some of the challenges in doing this.
This webinar is presented by Brisbane based Clinical Psychologist Lorren Arezio. She has worked in the area of relational trauma, child protection and family stress and disruption for over 20 years, providing therapy and support to children, adults and families in both government and private settings. She works from a trauma and attachment lens and is an accredited DDP and PACE Trainer. She is also a wife and mother of 3 now adult children, the youngest of whom was adopted. Lorren brings this combined experience to help children and families to thrive.
The session is designed for kinship, foster and permanent carers.
