The morning session, presented by Joanie Bartolo from Emotion Wise, explores emotional intelligence and offers support for carers by providing a brief introduction of kids in care, trauma and the key principles from Tuning in to Kids®, a parenting program that aims to provide helpful ways of responding to young people’s emotions, and help children learn important skills of emotional intelligence.
The afternoon session will turn to exploring anger – what is underneath and how to respond and support children and young people of all ages.
The presentation has been tailored to the Out of Home Care community (inclusive of all carers) and focuses on the emotional connection between carers and children.
Joanie Bartolo is the Principal Consultant at Emotion Wise. She is a qualified social worker and an accredited Tuning in to Kids® and Tuning in to Teens® practitioner. Joanie has worked with children and families for 25 years and has been a consultant for over 10 years. The session is designed for kinship, foster and permanent carers.
