Neurodivergent children and young people in care: Understanding, Behaviours & Strategies

Time: 10.00am – 1.00pm (3 hours)

Date: Tuesday 17 February

Location: Online (Zoom)

Presented by: Christina Keeble

This webinar will provide carers with the latest, up to date, lived experience research around neurodivergence – Autism & ADHD – including Monotropism, Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria (RSD), the Double Empathy Problem, and more.

The session will:

  • facilitate a carer’s understanding of the neurodivergent child/teen’s internal experiences and processes
  • support carers to understand the ‘why’ behind behaviours they may encounter
  • explore why some of the “gold standard Autism” strategies and other go-to behaviourist strategies do not work and can lead to an increase in behaviour and a decrease in mental health.
  • provide a sound understanding about the intersection of trauma and neurodivergence along with practical strategies on how to support the child in care when the challenges arise.
  • build the carer’s confidence in supporting the neurodivergent child or teen in their care
  • allow time for Q&A after the session for all attendees to ask questions & seek clarification on the content presented

This session is presented by Christina Keeble, an Autistic ADHDer and proud parent to two neurodivergent children. Christina blends her lived experience with extensive professional expertise across education, psychology, and inclusion. She has a Bachelor of Psychology (Honours), a Master’s in Special Education, and a Graduate Diploma in Primary and Early Childhood Teaching. Christina has delivered impactful keynotes, training, and workshops to diverse audiences across Australia for almost 10 years.

The session is designed for kinship, foster and permanent carers.
