Preparing for the Holidays: Building a Wellbeing Plan for the Season Ahead

Time: 10.30am – 1.00pm

Date: Tuesday 2 December 2025

Location:  Online (Zoom)

Presented by: Megan Corcoran, Director of the Wagtail Institute

As a result of participation in this session, carers will:

  • Feel more confident and prepared to navigate the emotional and practical challenges of the holiday season.
  • Create a personalised wellbeing plan for their household to support calm, connection, and predictable routines over the holiday period.
  • Be equipped with realistic, low-cost strategies to create calm, structure, and moments of connection with children during periods of unstructured time.
  • Have greater readiness to respond calmly to children’s big feelings and behaviours linked to change, loss, or family complexity.
  • Feel more capable of maintaining care and connection while also protecting their own energy and wellbeing.
  • Develop simple plans and routines that help make the holiday period more predictable and manageable for everyone in the household.
  • Strengthen their confidence to set and communicate healthy boundaries during a demanding time.
  • Leave with renewed clarity, self-compassion, and practical tools to sustain care — for both themselves and the children they support — throughout the holidays.

This session is presented by Megan Corcoran, Director of the Wagtail Institute and trauma-informed wellbeing consultant. Megan is an experienced teacher, leader, university lecturer and workshop facilitator. Megan is a popular Carer Kafe presenter who has presented on trauma informed practice and self-care for carers at our many retreats and workshops.

The session is designed for kinship, foster and permanent carers.
