VACCA Cultural Day – Budj Bim World Heritage Cultural Landscape
Free event for carers of Aboriginal children
Date: Friday 5 June
Time: 10.00 AM – 1.00 PM (Lunch will be provided)
Location: Lake Condah and The Tae Rak Aquaculture Centre, Vaughan’s Road, Breakaway Creek, VIC 3303
This cultural day for carers includes a guided tour of the Tae Rak (Lake Condah) wetlands providing an overview of the Gunditjmara creation story, the lifecycle of Kooyang (eels) and the lake’s extensive marine and birdlife; and continues on to see the network of aquaculture systems designed to trap and harvest kooyang (eel) for food and trade.
As a result of participation in this activity, carers will:
- Have greater confidence caring for an Aboriginal child
- Increase their understanding of Aboriginal culture, history, identity
- Improve their ability to support a child’s cultural connection
- Have a stronger empathy and understanding of intergenerational impact
- Create connections with other carers
A $100 digital gift card will be emailed to you after the session to assist with travel and childcare costs.
The session is designed for kinship, foster and permanent carers.
