This 3-hour workshop will provide tools for carers to become more aware, confident and knowledgeable in responding to the needs of LGBTQIA+ young people in your care.
The workshop will explore
- Key concepts and definitions of sex, gender and sexuality.
- Evidence based barriers LGBTQIA+ young people face at school and home.
- Practical tools to support LGBTQIA+ young people
- LGBTQIA+ lived experiences via our expert workshop presenters as they talk about their personal journeys being LGBTQIA+.
- The gender spectrum and definitions of varying gender identities.
- Australian-based research examining barriers and discrimination.
- The experiences and processes of medical and social gender transitioning.
- How to apply inclusive language and create a positive, inclusive care culture.
- The tools to provide safe and inclusive caring for young people
It will be presented by Minus 18, Champions for LGBTQIA+ youth; creating an Australia where all young people are safe, empowered and surrounded by people that support them.
The session is designed for kinship, foster and permanent carers.
