VACCA Cultural Day – Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne

This is a free event for carers of Aboriginal children

Date: Tuesday 31 March

Time: 9:30 AM – 1:30 PM (Lunch will be provided)

Location: Visitor Centre, Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne, Birdwood Avenue, VIC 3000

A cultural tour and lunch for carers from across Victoria to come together, learn about Culture and connect.

Journey into Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne, a significant cultural site for the local Kulin Nation, with a First Peoples guide. Gain insight into the rich history and thriving culture of the First Peoples of Australia through a journey of identifying significant native plants within the Gardens. Learn about Aboriginal plant uses, customs and ongoing connection to Country.

As a result of participation in this activity, carers will:

  • Increase their understanding of Aboriginal history and culture
  • Build on respect for Aboriginal identity
  • Build on their ability to provide culturally safe care to Aboriginal children in their care
  • Improve their ability to support a child’s cultural identity
  • Spend time with other carers and create connections

A $50 digital gift card will be emailed to you after the session to assist with travel and childcare costs.

The session is designed for kinship, foster and permanent carers.
